Library Director’s Job Description

 

 

Basic knowledge of computer use and office equipment

 

Ability to work with and for the public and staff

 

Assist patrons to utilize the internet access

 

Send overdue notices to patrons

 

Collect information and issue library cards and Kansas Library Cards

 

Check library materials in and out

 

Assist patrons to locate items within the library

 

Answer phone

 

Handle reference questions

 

Check book drop daily, hang out flag (weather permitting). go to post office

 

Collect fines/fax/copy money

 

Order books, supplies, magazines, other items as needed for library

 

Prepare State Report

 

Plan and carry out Summer Reading Program

 

Plan weekly story time

 

Supervise other staff and make schedules

 

Sign and send timesheets to Emporia for payroll

 

Prepare monthly reports and present at board meetings

 

Keep track of bills that come in and give to treasurer

 

Attend NCKLS meetings

 

Work with other Lyon County Libraries

 

Attend  librarian meeting at EPL 3/4 times a year

Host Annual Trustee meetings (rotate with Americus, Emporia and Hartford)

 

Know other Librarian job positions and be able to cover if absent

 

Maintain clear sidewalks during snowy/icy weather

 

Report any problems with library building to board

 

Weed books

 

Check emails daily

 

Other duties may arise from the position of director
